Mose: This was a truly momentous occasion, marked by our debut performance of The Who’s classic mini-rock-opera, "A Quick One While He’s Away." Playing "AQOWHA" has been a dream of ours for a long, long, long (long) time. If I remember correctly, Nate and I first discussed the idea while he was slacking his way through college, before I dropped out of college, before we joined forces with Adam Therrien, and long before we had ever heard the names "Kevin Lamkins" and "Chris Andrews." Those were happier times.

But I digress.

The all-star cast of this performance featured Kevin as Townshend’s "little girl guide," and the ambidexterous Nate Harris as her jilted lover and the narrator. Since my work in other rock operas has apparently typecast me as a dirty old pervert, I played Ivor the Engine Driver. Chris was also present.

Our story begins in a small town... Kevin’s lover, Nate, has been away for a year, doing something or other. Kevin is quite sad. I come along, bringing word that Nate is on his way home, and that although he may be late, that "don’t mean he’ll never get through!" A few lewd advances later, Kevin and I are "fornicating." The cuckolded Harris arrives shortly... the atmosphere is tense as Kevin sheepishly admits his infidelity... And if you want to know what happens next, you’ll have to buy the album or come see us live. "A Quick One While He’s Away" is sure to become a staple of our performances (at least when we have an extra fifteen minutes or so to kill).

Incidentally, do you know what a "girl guide" is? I didn’t either until I happened upon the term in the dictionary while looking up something else. Apparently, the girl guides are something like the British version of Girl Scouts. Maybe it’s supposed to be capitalized, I don’t know. Live and learn!
